For the first time since contemporary records began, Western Bundjalung people have treated Jubullum Flat Camp with cultural fire.
In a joint effort with the National Parks & Wildilfe Service, Western Bundjalung rangers last week began a cultural burn regime in this profoundly significant area.
“Today is another step toward achieving our community’s aspirations to manage Jubullum Flat Camp as per our cultural ways” said Ngullingah Jugun Aboriginal Corporation CEO Ryan Walker.
Also in attendance was Steve King, a National Parks & Wildlife Service veteran of almost 50 years, who first attended Flat Camp with Pop Eric Walker, and listened to his aspirations for Flat Camp to be a place of learning and sharing culture some 5 decades ago.
“It’s very special to be back here all these years later and to share in this day, and the efforts towards bringing Pop Eric’s aspirations to fruition.”
Ngullingah Jugun Aboriginal Corporation, together with the National Parks & Wildlife Service is busy beautifying Jubullum Flat Camp for the upcoming Ngullingah Jugun Members Day on Saturday 18th April 2026.
All NJAC members and families are warmly welcomed to attend a day of celebration and culture at Jabullum Flat Camp, Tabulam from 10am-2pm to see the great works that have been happening.
Buses will be running from Yamba, Grafton and Casino to the Tabulam football field. A shuttle service will then transport attendees out to Flat Camp.
